Just Hanging Around

Fred is a brilliant but very sneaky abseiling teacher. His method is to keep talking and make you think you are getting ready to abseil as you start descending. Before you realise what has happened, you are already half way down the cliff face. Anyway, this is the first time I have stayed in the Hong Kong countryside and I love the way (unlike Shanghai) it is so accessible from the city. We stayed at Pak Lak and Pak Sha O. Hong Kong looks idyllic to me at the moment. It has all the good features of China, but with much better food, weather, countryside, international culture and well run systems that seem to work without too much chaos. It’s always easy to paint a rosy glow for a place that you visit for a few days on holiday. Last year, it was Thailand’s turn. I still think that moving to Shanghai is the best thing I have ever done and it’s shame that Hong Kong has so much air pollution from the Pearl Delta.
