Return of the Thing
As I walked around the former French Concession this weekend, I noticed that my favourite t-shirt designers had opened a shop by the corner of Xinle Lu and Xiangyang Lu in addition to their branch in Changle Lu. The Thing makes fantastic logos on t-shirts, hats, bags and long sleeve tops. If you want a t-shirt design that will cause people to smile or run away then this is a good place to buy them from. T-shirts start at just under 100 RMB. My favourites include the man holding his severed head on a spike and the x-ray of an insect inside a bird inside a cat inside a dog. The logos are dark and funny, although the clothes tend to be cut quite badly so they are neither small or baggy. You have to try on the garments to make sure they fit OK.
The website needs a bit of work to make it accessible. The index pags is blank. There is limited English language support and you need a Chinese language pack to view the site properly. Also, there seems to be very little information about the shops in terms of location and opening hours, but it might give you some idea about their designs.
