BBC News – Net Copes With Key Character Test
It is good to see non US technology news getting wider coverage. I just saw this story in the BBC. I know a lot about US based tech news from podcasts and mainstream media, but I feel I know next to nothing about what happens in China and that is a shame considering I live here. I hope to find good news sources and really know what is happening in the Chinese techsphere.
Net Copes With Key Character Test
The Chinese are rapidly becoming big net users Tests have been carried out to see if spelling internet domains with non-English characters will disrupt the smooth running of the net. The tests are a step towards the formal use of non-English character sets such as Chinese and Arabic in domain names.Internationalised domain names will make the net easier to use for the majority of net users who do not have English as their first language. The work to introduce these character sets should be finished by 2008.
