Catshanghai

Hong Kong Plaza or Cyber Mall is Shanghai’s most famous and centrally located electronics mall on the corner of Huai-Hai Lu and Huangpi Lu.  Most of you are probably already familiar with the place, especially if you have lived here for a while and  lust after gadgets. I like to go here, because it is near my bus stop and I have to got to know a couple of suppliers that I trust more than the other hawks who hassle me as I walk around in awe at the new laptops and smartphones. Sometimes, Jenny teases me by saying that my computer and Ipod are my second and third wives. I don’t know what she’s talking about!

This afternoon, I headed over to Hong Kong Plaza to indulge in a spot of geek love and to write down the prices of these objects. The list below represents the cheapest prices that I could find after asking two or three different stalls. There was no bargaining, although the prices tended to fall as I moved away from the main entrance. Also, vendors dropped their prices if they were aware that I had asked another stall close by. You can save a few kuai by haggling with the stall holders and I will give you some very useful information in my next tech price post to help you get the lowest possible price.
