Chog Gets a Shower

It is common practice for Shanghainese pet owners to take their pet animals to the grooming parlour for a shampoo, cut and blow dry. We are not sure about doing this for short haired cats, because they hate getting wet and they are quite capable of bathing themselves, although ours was pretty grubby after we rescued him from an office block. After much persuasion, we went along with it on the condition that we would never repeat the experience if it was too stressful for our beloved cat called Chog.

See for yourself. He really hated having his claws clipped to the point that he was given a collar to stop biting his hairdresser. He looked stressed, but he was more resigned to his fate by the time he was rinsed, lathered and subsequently dried off. We took him to a place on Zhonghua Lu near Yu Yuan. At least we could look at him being groomed through the window and they seem to treat the animals they look after pretty well. It cost us 70 RMB.

Chog the cat is now all clean and fluffy and he doesn’t seem too traumatised. In fact, he was surprsingly relaxed afterwards (not at the time). We still have reservations about showering him, although he objected most strongly to having his claws cut. Like it or not, Chog is going to have to be clipped again or we will all be scratched to shreds.
