Shanghai’s New Metro Opens Today

I took a ride on the new extension to Line 4, which opened today.
I took a ride from Nanpu Bridge to Pudong Avenue and from Century Avenue to Luban Lu. It was noticeable that the stations were teaming with ayis, and that the trains were busy yet not overcrowded. There was a wait of at least five minutes in between trains, so the service is much less frequent than on Lines 1 and 2.
We welcome this new service, because southern central areas have long been overlooked in terms of metro services and there is now an easy way to get from Hongqiao to Pudong via Lupu and Nanpu Bridge. Shanghai now has a connected circle line. Lines 8 and 6 also opened today, so Pudong and north-south services are better than ever. It remains to be seen if this causes real estate prices to shoot up.
I’ll try a dry run next week to see how quickly I can use the new service to get to work in Kangqiao Bandao. I am aiming for 45 minutes or less.
